Arfa Hoque, 20, of East Rutherford, was killed by the train near the Rutherford Station at approximately 1 a.m. on Feb. 26, according to NJ Transit spokesmen Kyalo Mulumba and spokesman John Chartier.
Hoque's LinkedIn page shows she has been an EMT in Lyndhurst since April 2024, and has been a member of the East Rutherford Fire Department's Emergency Medical Squad since 2021.
She was formerly a student at Becton High School, where she was the founder and president of the school's Math Honor Society chapter.
The train, Port Jervis train 41, had departed Hoboken at 12:39 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Port Jervis at 3:15 a.m., rail officials said. The train struck Hoque just west of the station at Paterson Avenue, Mulumba and Chartier said.
There were no reported injuries among the 22 passengers or crew members aboard the train, officials said.
